About Us

FOR OVER half a century, parents, educationalists and reformers have fought to make sure that every child has an equal chance in life. We embrace this philosophy to ensure that all our children are valued and recognized for their own unique contribution to our after-school performance club.

MINDS ARE LIKE PARACHUTES
THEY FUNCTION only when they are open. The hard facts are that not all children are born equal, physically, educationally or financially. InterAct is a place where we hope that none of this matters...

EACH OF US, STRONGER TOGETHER
WE ENSURE everything we do at InterAct really does include everyone—and that means that up to 30 students, three teachers, two helpers and a qualified nurse are integral to the creative mix.

RAISING SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH PERFORMING TOGETHER
INTERACT seeks to engage and develops students' imagination through creativity.

Students participate in drama sessions, where they build up skills in dialogue, character development and stagecraft. Teachers encourage students to think creatively and laterally; group devising is an important element in our work. InterAct uses movement to help express feelings and emotions as well as stretch muscles and help keep students supple.

Music plays a large part at InterAct. Youngsters can experience the joys of harmony and melody, enhancing their listening skills, and responding to different atmospheres music can create and how it affects moods. Students will use a variety of percussion, wind and other instruments (electronic key-board and xylophone, among others).

The buzz that encourages our students to return term after term tells us that the students discover more about themselves, each other and the world we live in through drama, movement and music.

WHAT IS INCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE?

A place where everyone between the ages of 10 and 18 is welcome to explore the arts through acting, music and movement.

Here are some of the questions that I am asked:

"I can't afford fees?" - It's free - join us!

"My son's in a wheelchair?" - we have winches in the toilets - join us!

"My daughter has regular epileptic fits?" - we have a qualified nurse and helpers on hand - join us!

"My children don't have a special need" - most of our students go to mainstream schools - join us!

So the ethos of InterAct is exactly that. For us all to learn from each other by interacting, by doing an activity that helps us break down initial barriers and find out more about the personality within ourselves and others. The emphasis is on fun - You WILL enjoy yourselves!! - and the laughter from the group is often left ringing in my ears as I wend my way home on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evening.

If you know of young people between the ages of 10 and 18 who would be interested in joining us, please ask their parents or guardians to contact Michael McNulty on 01932 256 223.
